What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a method of creating a sleep like (trance) state for the purpose of effecting positive change, mentally, emotionally and physically.
A trance state is an altered state of mind, which happens to be as normal and commonplace as blinking your eyes or yawning. Most people will enter this state unknowingly many times every day.
Day dreaming is a typical example of this. There is the TV trance, have you ever sat in front of the TV whilst some one has been talking to you and you haven’t heard a word? Or the driving trance where you leave A. and get to B. but don’t remember the journey and yet you have functioned perfectly safely. This is something that tends to happen to experienced drivers. The unconscious mind just takes over the job.
proportion is similar to an iceberg
The unconscious mind is another important component of Hypnotherapy. It’s called unconscious because your conscious mind is rarely aware of it. Your conscious mind is like the tip of an iceberg whilst your unconscious mind is the vast part of the iceberg hidden under the sea.
The items of information the average conscious mind can hold at any given moment is approximately 2 to 7 pieces, the unconscious mind, however, is capable of managing trillions of information particles. Your unconscious mind keeps you alive, pumping your heart, digesting your food and keeping your lymph system operating, it maintains your body.
Whilst you have been reading this you will not have been aware of how many times you blinked or what your little finger on your left hand is doing or what position your tongue is in your mouth but now you are aware because your attention has just been drawn to those parts of your body.
The Mind/Body Connection

Thanks to the work of Dr Deepak Chopra and more recently research done through quantum physics and quantum biology it is now known that the unconscious mind can also communicate with the trillions of cells that make up our bodies.
The unconscious mind sends information via an electrical/chemical process (neuro-transmition) which bathes the billions of individual cells in your body with information coming directly from your beliefs and what you often see, hear, feel and think about. These cells then respond to this information by creating health or dis-ease. Dr Deepak Chopra describes this as your immune system constantly eavesdropping on your internal dialogue.
Even though the unconscious mind is capable of so much it does not have the ability to discern. Anything strongly felt and visualised is taken as a real stimulus and your body will respond accordingly, it doesn’t matter weather the strong experience is up lifting and inspiring or violent and frightening. The unconscious mind does not know the difference between knifing someone in a violent computer game and the real thing if the person playing the game is fully emotionally engaged. Continual repetition of strong emotion, sight and sound depending on the content can create for better or worse profound changes in our behaviour and that naturally effects families and communities.
Through Hypnotherapy rapport between the conscious and the unconscious mind can be developed and healing as well as the ability to transcend fear can take place. Through the unconscious mind it is possible to connect with a part which I like to call the ‘Wise self’ or Higher self, some people call this part the Super Conscious Mind. Metaphysically speaking The Mind is one but as most people don’t experiences it that way it is easer to explain it as if divided.
It is through this higher part of consciousness that creative solutions, higher aspirations, health and well being can be accessed. This part is linked to heart energy and contains the blue print, the keys to greater achievement, happiness and success. Rapport of the parts of Mind can develop new skills, increase joy and literally create miracles.
What Happens in a Session?

Firstly it is important to know that all healing is self healing and Jennifer Charles considers herself as an experienced guide assisting you through a hypnotic process which enables you to achieve a desired result.
A session will begin with a chat about your progress to date and what particular issues you need to work with. You are then guided into a pleasing deeper level of relaxation in a comfortable environment, with calming music and Jennifer’s soothing voice. During the course of the session appropriate suggestions and therapeutic interventions designed to create a healing shift, will take place.
At all times you know you are in control and could bring yourself out of the hypnotic trance any time you wished. The sessions are 50 minutes or 90 minuets long and during that time your body will be getting the benefits of a deeper level of relaxation then you might experience in your normal life.
Hypnotherapy is a gentle therapy and the process of healing usually becomes more and more apparent in the hours and days and weeks that follow a session. Sessions are usually weekly and the number needed is discussed during the initial consultation.
